Autonomous Kabylia will eat stones
To those who still claim that Autonomous Kabylia will not do well, it is forgetting the strong relation between Kabyles and their land. Pierre Bourdieu has worked in a lifetime about that.
And if for freedom Kabylia must draw on the resources of it’s land, it will not be a novelty.
Oued Amizour Project
Oued Amizour is a volcanic complex on the north coast of Algeria containing several Pb-Zn deposits totalling over 50 million tonnes and potential for more discoveries. Its strategic location and low-iron concentrates will attract a premium from European smelters. It is a world class project with potential to be in the top five zinc mines in the world. Capital costs for the development will be low because of proximity to infrastructure.
Discovered in the 1990’s by an Algerian government exploration company (ORGM), the 30 million tonne Tala Hamza zinc deposit will be developed first. It is favourably located only 10 kilometres from the major port of Bejaia. The deposit is open at depth and laterally.
Terramin controls the project through its 65% shareholding in an Algerian holding company, Western Mediterranean Zinc Spa (WMZ). A joint venture agreement with Entreprise Nationale Des Produits Miniers Non Ferreux et des Substances Utiles (ENOF) and WMZ requires Terramin to fund the Tala Hamza deposit through feasibility to a decision to mine. Location, infrastructure
The Oued Amizour project encompasses 125 square kilometres of exploration licence in the north of Algeria, 270km east of Algiers and close to the port city of Bejaia. Infrastructure is very favourable. Bejaia is one of the main harbours on the Mediterranean Sea, the pipeline terminal for export from the Saharan oil and gas fields, and an international airport. The port is competitively placed to provide concentrates to Europe.
Physical geography
The mountainous Oued Amizour massif, with elevations up to 730m, is part of the Atlas mountains, which dominate the north coast of Algeria. It is cut by steep valleys and covered with brushwood. A dry and hot summer and a wet winter, with temperatures from 2 to 4oC (17-20oC on average) characterize the Mediterranean climate, much like that of Adelaide where Terramin has its head office.
…To put the Assif Amizour projet in context, Moriartry estimates it could produce the same revenue in a few months as its Angas zinc project in South Australia over 6 years.
“This is a world-class deposit by any standard. The current mine life, a 3mt would be of the order of 18 years, assuming we don’t find anymore,” Moriarty said. "(At$US1200/t)it would produce well over $US100 million in net revenues per year…
