A letter to a well known historian

Dear X,

First of all, I want to thank you for your good book which has known a great success. I just wanted to tell you that we, as Kabylian people, would be very glad to see you writing a book on the Kabylian question in Algeria. I am one of those Kabylians who believe that a regional autonomy for our region will put an end to the genocide we are undergoing since independence in 1962.

Kabylians as you surely know have been at the origin of the military revolution which ended French colonialism in Algeria. But after independence, Kabylia found itself under an Arabic-Islamic colonialism because while Kabylians were fighting in the country some Arabic Algerians (in Algeria you find Berbers and Arabs) went to the Arabic Middle East (mainly Egypt, Syria etc.) where they were educated and armed so as to ensure that Algeria would remain in the Arabic-Islamic sphere. They constituted an army and waited for independence on the other side of the Algerian borders, in Tunisia and Morocco. Once independence came, they invaded the country, pacified the freedom fighters inside the country and stole power from Kabylians and prevented them from establishing a modern secular and democratic republic. Kabylians fighters reacted by turning their arms against the new Arabic-Islamic invaders but the seven years of war against the French didn’t leave them enough strength to start another new war. As a result, all the Kabylian opponents of the Arabic-Islamic dictatorial regime were assassinated.

Now, since independence, we are humiliated and marginalized and most of us are forced to leave their homes for Europe and other destinations. Our region is the poorest one in the country.

Our cultural identity and our language are constantly targeted by the anti-Kabylian and anti-Berber Algerian government. We are suffering from Arabization and Islamization. Our cultural demands have always been rejected by the Arabic government. Many Kabylian protests, marches, upheavals, ended with blood or prison for the Kabylian activists because the police and the military forces of the fascist Arabic-Islamic authorities never hesitate to shoot the Kabylian protesters. The fascist Arabic-Islamic power of Algeria wants only our extinction.

As you know, before the invasion of North Africa (named TAMAZGHA in Berber), this part of the world had never been Arabic. After cutting the head of our Berber queen Dihia who was Judaist, they forced the Berbers to Islam. Tamazgha has always been the land of the Berbers. And up to now, the great majority of Algerian people remain profoundly Berber in their cultural traits, but because of opportunism or fear, the majority of them accept to be called Arabic except us, Kabylians.

Since the bloody events of 2001, we have understood that only self-government would suit us within Algeria.

The situation we live in Algeria as Berbers is the same in all the North African countries where you have Arabic-Islamic dictatorships whose enemy is democracy, secularism, human rights, and modernity.

If you could help us by writing some papers or a book on our cause, We, Kabylians would be very grateful to you, since as you surely understand that this is an SOS from an innocent people who undergo the same problems as your people.

Thank you very much in advance for your understanding.

Best regards,

Nordine X
(If my name is Arabic, it’s because my parents who were also victims of the Arabic-Islamic oppression and assimilation, couldn’t give me a Berber name, it’s forbidden by the fascist Algerian law)
