A murder in Paris

Ameziane Mehenni, 30, was the son of the Kabyle singer and democracy fighter Ferhat Mehenni, whom we at FDD have had the privilege to know.

He and his father have been supporters of a free Kabylia, an area that is now part of Algeria. The Kabyles are also known as Berbers. They are a non-Arab ethnic minority. Most are Muslims, but members of the Kabylia democracy movement support full religious freedom for the small but quickly growing Kabyle Christian community as well.

Kabyle activists believe Mehenni was assassinated by Radical Islamists and that his murder may be linked to officials in the Algerian government.

They do not have much hope that French authorities will investigate and prosecute this murder aggressively.
